Congratulations to Ms. Mueller for winning the Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative Grant. With her winnings, she has some fun and exciting learning opportunities planned for her students!

Mrs. Sheridan’s Kindergarten is 100 days smarter! 🎉💯 To celebrate the 100th day of school, our kindergarteners got creative by making lists of 100 items they’d love to have and things they wouldn't! This fun activity had students dreaming big while showing just how much they’ve learned in 100 days of kindergarten. Way to go, Mrs. Sheridan’s class! We’re so proud of how far you’ve come in 100 days! 🍎✨

Our students had a blast at the Mad Science Assembly! 🧪🔥 A real mad scientist wowed the crowd with an exciting (and slightly explosive 😉) show full of entertaining and educational experiments—growing a Styrofoam hand, genie in a bottle, glowing tubes, flash fire paper, rockets, and more, all powered by amazing chemical reactions. Even better, students got to jump in and help assist with the experiments while learning an important message: science is exciting, can be dangerous, and experiments should only be done with adults. Curiosity + safety = smart scientists! A huge thank you to our PTO for providing this unforgettable opportunity and helping spark a love of science in our students. We appreciate you! 💙🧪✨

Our 4th graders got rock-solid with science today! 🪨🍬 Students simulated the processes of weathering, erosion, and deposition by creating their own sedimentary rock—using Jolly Ranchers. They crushed, moved, and layered the “sediment” to model how rocks change over time, then observed how the layers came together just like real sedimentary rock. Hands-on learning + sweet results = a lesson they won’t forget! 😄👏

Tomorrow, February 10, Apple blossoms practice will run from 3:30 to 4:30 PM. Kindergarten through fifth grade students may remain at school until practice begins.

📣 Reminder for Families 📣 This Friday, February 13 is an early dismissal day. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. 🍎 Lunch will be served before dismissal. 🚫 There will be no Appleknocker Club on Friday. Please also note there will be no school on Monday, February 16, in recognition of Presidents’ Day. Thank you, and enjoy the long weekend! 🇺🇸

✨ Schedule Update for Cobden Families ✨ After the recent snow days, we’re excited to get back into our routines and have a few important updates to share for next week! 🎉 Tuesday, February 3 – We will celebrate the 100th Day of School along with our fun Cereal Box Domino Event. Students and staff are invited to dress up as if they are 100 years old to help us mark this special milestone—get creative and have fun with it! 🏀 Schedule Change: The Little Appleknocker Basketball Game has been rescheduled for Friday, February 6 at 1:40 PM and will take place in the big high school gym. Thank you for your flexibility during the winter weather.

Breakfast- Cereal, cheese stick, fruit and milk. Lunch- Hot dogs, chips, apples, and baked beans.

Apple Blossoms Cheer Clinic Rescheduled!

CYCA's district-wide cause to raise awareness and funds for this year is Organ Donation Awareness. We will take part in a green-out Tuesday March 3rd. This year's cause is inspired by staff member Bridget Flick, who was put on the transplant list last July due to her stage 4 kidney disease. If you are interested in being a donor, please see this link- http://livingdonorsluh.org/ The cause was also inspired by Cobden alum Kyle Hall, who was put on the transplant list October 2024 and has stage 5 kidney disease. Proceeds from shirt orders will go to the National Kidney Foundation. Below is the t-shirt we are selling to raise funds for the organization. The winning design was created by students Rae Cash and Lucas Aguirre in Art Club, and then brought to fruition by Tony Phillipe with Silkworm. Forms are due by Tuesday Feb. 10th.
