In Ms. Seever’s RTI group, students learned about different genres of literature by acting out plays, and then writing their own plays!

We will begin with an informational meeting on Monday, October 17th, 2022 at 6:00pm—to go over the details of the practice schedule and answer any questions parents may have. This meeting will be held at the Cobden High School gym.
Who: Grades 1st through 5th and any 6th graders who didn’t make the team or try out can participate.
What: Basketball practice for fundamentals
Why: To develop the basketball skills you will need as you get older at your level. We want to encourage kids to play and get better at their pace. It’s never too late to start!
Cost: $50 per participant

Co Op student, Kevin Webb works at Union County Housing Authority. Kevin has gained valuable experiences working with different trades. Kevin maintains apartments through painting, cleaning, drywall and performing other repairs. Kevin hopes to pursue trades as a career in the future.

ESL Club dedicated Week 3 of Hispanic Heritage Month to Iconic Hispanic People. They did trivia questions a few days and held a Decorate Door Contest amongst High School advisory classes. Mr. Self's advisory class won an ice cream party for winning first place on their door dedicated to Roberto Clemente.

6th grade acted out Hammurabi’s Court in Social Studies class last week


Co Op student, Mirranda Eads works at Fork and Vine in Cobden. Mirranda is enjoying the Co Op program and is being promoted from hostess to waitress this month. Cobden High School is excited to partner with local businesses! Students in the Co Op program gain valuable, hands on work experience while learning about careers and job skills in the classroom.

Students in Mrs. Nash-Mayberry's career & consumer economics class took part in mock job interviews with Mr. Shoemate today in front of the entire class to prepare for future real job interviews. Before this, they worked on resumes and cover letters, as well as career exploration.


The Cobden FFA Ag Sales Team competed in the section 24 Ag Sales CDE last night, hosted at Cobden High School. Students completed an individual sales call, a team sales presentation, and a business test. Great job boys!

Education Pathway Student, Karleigh Ellis was able to prepare and teach a lesson during 6th grade Social Studies today. Her cooperating teacher, Mrs. Taylor, gave her excellent feedback. Education Pathway students are gaining valuable experiences and getting a taste of teaching while they are still in high school!

The Cobden FFA is off to a great start. Members have attended a livestock fair at the Union County Fairgrounds, showing animals including goats, swine, and sheep. Members attended the Section 24 Fair Horse show, held at the Union County Fairgrounds. FFA members also attended the Equine Evaluation CDE held at Vienna and SIUC, and the Green Hand workshop at SIUC. At the Equine Evaluation event in Vienna the Varsity team placed 5th and the JV team placed 2nd. At the Equine Evaluation event at SIUC the Varsity team placed 18th out of 45 schools.The JV team placed 1st place out of 39 schools.

Attention boys basketball (6th-8th grade):
If your son is interested in playing basketball, tryouts and practice will be starting next week. The schedule will go as follows:
Monday 9/26- 6:30-8:00 (tryouts)
Tuesday 9/27- 3:30-5:30 (tryouts)
Wednesday 9/28- 5:30-7:30 (1st official practice)
Thursday 9/29 - 3:30 -5:15
Parent meeting after practice. Every player needs to have an adult present.
All interested boys must have a current physical on file. If you have questions please contact Coach Justin Snell .
Attention Families- The State of Illinois requires certain Health Records by Grade Level- Kindergarten, 2nd, 6th, 9th, and 12th. Also requirements for new students from out of state, students transferring from other Illinois schools, and sports physicals. Nurse Erin has sent home reminders with students who need some of these documents for their medical file. The deadline for these documents is October 15th. If your student is not compliant with Illinois School Code mandates for these health documents, the student will NOT be allowed to attend school after October 14th of the current year until the items are received by the school.
