Cobden Mountain Bike Club is shredding trails @touchofnature!

Did you know that approximately 1 in every 7 children experienced child abuse or neglect in the past year? That means that nearly 70 students in our school district alone have likely experienced abuse or neglect. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Jr. Beta Club will be hosting a supplies drive benefitting Two Rivers Child Advocacy Center in Anna, IL. Please consider making a donation of the listed items to help children right here in Southern Illinois. Thank you for your support!

In February, the ACES team competed on regional competition for the first time on two years. The team placed 3rd and several students placed individually as well.

Help support the FFA. Tickets are still available. Drawing will be held on April 1st.

Today's high school softball game has been rescheduled due to rain. New date is March 31st at Dongola 4:30.

Cobden Youth & Community Advocates (CYCA) will be doing a green-out May 3rd for Mental Health Awareness month. They are selling these lime green t-shirts for $12, and proceeds go toward The Night's Shield, an organization that serves children in our area including the Cobden district. The winning art design was created by Walker Williams and Emma Kilpatrick, with some help from community member Tony Phillipe. Orders with money must be placed no later than the end of the school day April 8th. Forms and money may be given to any CYCA member or to the high school office. Foods II students are finishing up the yeast bread unit. Students made home made pizzas this morning 🍕

Students in Civics went above and beyond in their mock legislative hearing today. Each group was assigned a role in a hearing on the death penalty in Illinois, and though the assignment was only worth a small amount of points, students became enthusiastic about the roles and even asked if they could dress up. One group even held a fake funeral with programs and music to make their persuasive argument to the legislators. Mrs. Nashberry was proud to see them take ownership of the assignment.

Today's high school baseball and softball games have been canceled

The teachers made biscuits and gravy for the juniors before they take the SAT today. Good luck juniors! 🍀 📝

Educators Rising students visited Unity Point Elementary today. Students observed PreK, Jr. High PE, 5-6th grade Language Arts and 1st grade. Students also participated in a Q&A with administration. Thank you to Unity Point for welcoming our students!

Special thanks to IL State Trooper Jeff Stroehlein for talking to students in Mrs. Nash-Mayberry's Civics classes. He talked about what his job entails, but the main focus was about his grandpa Gene Clutts, who was a prison guard and sadly was murdered in 1983 by an inmate at Marion Penitentiary. Students had read an article about the murder during a unit about the death penalty. Officer Stroehlein shared information about his grandpa, and the prison system.
