Today Seniors in Mrs. Nashberry's Government class took part in a mock trial. Roles included prosecution, defense, and jurors along with deputies/bailiffs. All students did an excellent job of presenting their side's arguments, and questioning witnesses on the stand. Special thanks to the forensic science club for their analysis and contributions.

We thank Kennendie Marks and Aaron Beirl, SIU Saluki Science Ambassadors, for visiting Cobden High School today to share information on the programs and opportunities the Science Department offers future students. We appreciate you sharing your vast knowledge with our students today. It was a very informative Lunch and Learn!

Students and Staff celebrated being named a Democracy School by wearing patriotic colors and treating themselves to some punch and cookies on Tuesday. Former Lt. Governor Sheila Simon spoke to seniors in Mrs. Nashberry's government class, recognizing the students who served on the committee, and discussed the importance of democracies. This honor, being recognized as a democracy school, is for staff teaching civics across the curriculum in their many different subject disciplines and helping prepare our Appleknockers to be civic minded citizens.

REMINDER CANS DUE TUESDAY MORNING Food Drive starting Oct 30th- November 14th to benefit our local Elementary food pantry and Bethany Village.

Don't forget to wear your red, white and blue Tuesday as we celebrate being named a democracy school. There will be cookies and punch as students enter the high school. https://youtu.be/LioyV9vtX1Q?si=Dm_ktu1hBEm7GbOA

We thank Jessica Vicente and Kay Potts with SIH for bringing their teams to CHS for a Lunch and Learn today. Our students learned about scholarship opportunities and different careers within the Cardiac Department. The hands-on experiences were fun for all in attendance.
Our seniors enrolled in the Certified Nursing Assistant course through Shawnee Community College used this opportunity as a career exploration activity. Activities like these help them to work towards their College and Career Pathway Endorsement in Health Sciences, which the Illinois State Board of Education awards.

Reminder Early dismissal tomorrow 11/9/23 at 2:05pm and no school Friday November 10th in observance of Veterans Day!
