Congratulations to this year's high school history fair winners. 1st place was awarded to Mackenzie Jackson & Grace Hawkins for their project on Sundown Towns. 2nd place was awarded to Lindsey Windings & Madi Moreland for their project on Anna Veterans Home. 3rd place was awarded to Sophie Barnhart, Emma Roberts, & Kim Adams on the Stonewall Riots.

Freshmen in Introduction to Family and Consumer Sciences class participated in an etiquette dinner this morning. Students are wrapping up the foods unit.


The Cobden Agriculture Department would like to thank Steve Vasicek for presenting to the Wildlife Management class today. His valuable knowledge informed students about conservation management, daily tasks as an officer, and experiences. We appreciate Mr. Vasicek taking time out of his busy day to visit!


HS Baseball schedule update today-Game postponed until tomorrow at home 4:30pm against Webber. They will have practice after school today.
Softball game is still on for today at home 4:30pm against Webber.

Come rock out and support the Marching Appleknockers at our annual Applerockers Fundraiser on March 16th at 5:00 pm! Pizza from Pizza Villa, salad, and dessert will be for sale for dinner. Admission is free, but donations for upcoming band events are welcome. We hope to see you there!

Mrs. LeFevre enjoyed having Pre-K visit the incubating eggs this morning! Students got to visit the eggs, learn about the incubator, and review the life cycle of the chicken. There are 6 days left until hatching day!

Congratulations to Madison Moreland and Agent Inman on their placings at the District 5 FFA Proficiency Awards night! The competition took place on March 6th, at Mount Vernon High School. To qualify, students had to win at the section level. Students in Mrs. LeFevre's SAE class keep close proficiency area records using the FFA system AET over an outside of school project, and compete against other schools with their records and interview. Way to go Appleknockers!

Post 1 of 2 Jr. Beta Club is heading home from the Illinois Beta Convention in Springfield. This was our second year attending, and we more than doubled our attendance from last year! We also brought home the following awards:
Alex Miranda: 1st Place - 6th Grade Spanish
Hoyt Johnson: 3rd Place - 6th Grade Social Studies
Keela Kaszubski: 3rd Place - Creative Writing
Tyler Shoemate: 3rd Place - Black and White Photography
Maci Escue also did a wonderful job of representing our club and school as she competed in the Junior Solo Dancer division!

Educators Rising Club is off to state convention in Bloomington! Wish them luck as they compete in Children’s Literature, Job Interview and Lesson Planning. ❤️👩🏻🏫🧑🏻🏫

The CNA students would like to thank Rural Health for the 50 health and hygiene kits and Arrowleaf for the donation of feminine hygiene products. These items will be available in our food pantry each weekend.




The Cobden Agriculture Department enjoyed a day at SIUC for the Women In Agriculture Conference. Students participated in workshops and listened to guest speakers from the Agriculture Industry!


We appreciate Dan Silver with the SIUC Paralegal Department for taking the time to visit CHS today. Students listened to him explain about the wide variety of career opportunities in paralegal and law. He also explained how students can benefit by staying local and getting their school potentially paid for if they choose to attend SIUC.


The Agriculture Department is ready for spring! Students in Horticulture class have been maintaining the new hydroponic systems, and have planted the first tomatoes of the year under the grow lights. Students also have planted tulips in the raised garden beds. Wildlife management class created Ducks Unlimited drawings to enter into the stamp competition. Agricultural mechanics class have recently began blueprint and design, starting with building a model house. Animal science students have been learning how to give IVs and take blood in the vet science unit, along with incubating and collecting data on chicken eggs. Keep up the good work Appleknockers!






7th graders created dioramas portraying key scenes from their novel in reading class. They also completed a written report and presented their projects to the class. They worked hard and were very creative!
