Today we celebrate Mr. Clutts’ amazing SIU student teacher, Ms. Parks, as she completed her last day with our fifth grade students! Her dedication, energy, and passion for teaching have made a lasting impact in our classroom and school community. We wish her the very best as she graduates and begins her journey as a teacher. The future of education is brighter because of you, congratulations!

Our Students Had a Blast with Mad Science! Yesterday, our students were treated to an exciting and educational assembly presented by Mad Science! Our mad scientist, Musical Maria, wowed the crowd with fun experiments and hands-on demonstrations that brought science to life. From sound waves to surprising reactions, students were able to see, hear, and even help with experiments that made learning science unforgettable. A huge thank you to the Cobden PTO for sponsoring this engaging event—we’re so grateful for your continued support of our students’ learning experiences! Science has never been so fun!

What can a taco stand teach a 4-year-old? More than you might think! In Mrs.Jerrell’s Pre-K classroom, learning is always hands-on—and often full of imagination. Recently, we transformed our dramatic play area into our very own local taco stand! But behind the fun of pretending to take orders, make tacos, and serve customers, there’s a world of learning happening. Through this playful setup, our students practiced communication, teamwork, problem-solving, early literacy and math skills—all while building confidence and creativity. They created menus, counted ingredients, took turns being the “chef” and the “customer,” and even explored elements of our local community and culture. This is what turning curiosity into meaningful learning experiences that lay a strong foundation for the years to come look like. Because when we say “play is the work of children,” we truly mean it!
