It is with profound sadness that Cobden Unit School District #17 learned of the sudden and tragic passing of former student Mariana Fabian in a car accident.
Mariana will always be remembered as a member of our Cobden school family. The loss of a young life is heartbreaking, and our thoughts are with Mariana’s family, friends, and all those who knew and loved her during this incredibly difficult time.
We know that news of this tragedy may deeply affect our students, staff, and community. We will continue to support one another and provide care and compassion to those who are grieving.
Our hearts are with the Fabian family. Once an Appleknocker, always an Appleknocker. We will hold Mariana’s memory close and keep her loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.

The State of Illinois requires all kindergarteners, 6th and 9th graders to have a school physical and proof of immunizations. New Pre-K students are also required to have a physical.
Kindergarteners need a dental and vision exam.
2nd graders, 6th and 9th graders need a dental exam.
Eye exams are due by October 15, 2026 and dental exams are due May 15, 2027.
If you are a family that will be new to the district from out of state your student will also be required to have an Illinois physical and vaccine record on file.

It’s almost time to get ready for the new school year! Online registration for the 2026–2027 school year opens Monday, July 20 through TeacherEase.
If you prefer to register in person or need assistance with the online process, our school office will be open the first week of August from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Staff will be happy to help, and you may also bring any required paperwork with you at that time.
