Today we are celebrating three wonderful members of our school family — Mrs. Genung, Nancy Godinez, and Mrs. Uribe! 🍎

These amazing ladies go above and beyond each day to support our students and staff. Whether they are helping students stay engaged, offering encouragement, lending a hand wherever needed, or bringing positivity into our building, they truly make a difference. Their kindness, dedication, and teamwork help create the welcoming and supportive environment we are so proud of.

Our students are putting their math skills to great use while supporting a wonderful cause as they begin their St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Math-a-Thon packets! If you would like to help us raise funds for St. Jude but do not currently have a student in our school, please feel free to scan the QR code below to make a donation. The Appleknocker Cafe cooked up some breakfast pizza this week!

In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, we will be collecting donations for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Students who would like to wear a fun hat may bring $1 to participate. If you’re feeling the Seuss spirit and want to be extra festive, you’re also welcome to dress up as your favorite book character!

Pre-K Screening will be taking place this spring, and we look forward to meeting our newest Little Appleknockers! Please see the attached flyer for more information and call the elementary office to schedule your appointment. For students currently enrolled in our Pre-K program, there will be no Pre-K classes held on this day.

Junior High Cheer Fundraiser

Congratulations to Ms. Mueller for winning the Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative Grant. With her winnings, she has some fun and exciting learning opportunities planned for her students!

Mrs. Sheridan’s Kindergarten is 100 days smarter! 🎉💯 To celebrate the 100th day of school, our kindergarteners got creative by making lists of 100 items they’d love to have and things they wouldn't! This fun activity had students dreaming big while showing just how much they’ve learned in 100 days of kindergarten. Way to go, Mrs. Sheridan’s class! We’re so proud of how far you’ve come in 100 days! 🍎✨

Our students had a blast at the Mad Science Assembly! 🧪🔥 A real mad scientist wowed the crowd with an exciting (and slightly explosive 😉) show full of entertaining and educational experiments—growing a Styrofoam hand, genie in a bottle, glowing tubes, flash fire paper, rockets, and more, all powered by amazing chemical reactions. Even better, students got to jump in and help assist with the experiments while learning an important message: science is exciting, can be dangerous, and experiments should only be done with adults. Curiosity + safety = smart scientists! A huge thank you to our PTO for providing this unforgettable opportunity and helping spark a love of science in our students. We appreciate you! 💙🧪✨

Our 4th graders got rock-solid with science today! 🪨🍬 Students simulated the processes of weathering, erosion, and deposition by creating their own sedimentary rock—using Jolly Ranchers. They crushed, moved, and layered the “sediment” to model how rocks change over time, then observed how the layers came together just like real sedimentary rock. Hands-on learning + sweet results = a lesson they won’t forget! 😄👏

Sunshine + fresh air = happy kids ☀️❄️ After a long week of snow and freezing temps, our students finally got to play outside today—and they soaked up every minute of it! Smiles, laughter, and lots of joy as they enjoyed the sunshine. What a perfect way to wrap up the week! 🍎🍎

Kindergarten Screening

💚 Support Organ Donor Awareness with CYCA 💚

CYCA is selling Organ Donor Awareness shirts, with orders due by February 10. This cause is especially meaningful to our community, inspired by staff member Bridget Flick, who is currently on the transplant list, and CYCA alum Kyle Hall, who has received a kidney from Sarah Kilpatrick — the mom of CYCA President Alivia Kilpatrick. 💚

✨ Schedule Update for Cobden Families ✨ After the recent snow days, we’re excited to get back into our routines and have a few important updates to share for next week! 🎉 Tuesday, February 3 – We will celebrate the 100th Day of School along with our fun Cereal Box Domino Event. Students and staff are invited to dress up as if they are 100 years old to help us mark this special milestone—get creative and have fun with it! 🏀 Schedule Change: The Little Appleknocker Basketball Game has been rescheduled for Friday, February 6 at 1:40 PM and will take place in the big high school gym. Thank you for your flexibility during the winter weather.

Breakfast- Cereal, cheese stick, fruit and milk. Lunch- Hot dogs, chips, apples, and baked beans.

Cobden Unit School District will be in session tomorrow, Friday, January 30th. Buses will run; however, they will not travel down Toledo Cemetery Road or John Rich Road. If your child is usually picked up in these areas, please plan for alternative transportation. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work to return to school.

Due to continued snowy and icy road conditions, Cobden schools will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, January 29.
