Seniors in Mrs. Nash-Mayberry's Civics classes and 8th graders in Mrs. Taylor's social studies classes are writing lawmakers as part of a service learning project, urging that Union County be on their radar for future internet expansion projects. They're hoping for access to more, better, cheaper, reliable internet options in the future. Their letter writing campaign is being joined by Seniors in Mrs. Phillips' English course at Shawnee High School and Sophomores in Ms. Maze's civics course at Anna Jonesboro High School. https://wsiltv.com/2021/03/08/union-county-schools-take-action-for-equal-internet-access/

CYCA is planning a district-wide blue-out for Child Abuse Awareness Month on April 16th. Members are selling navy blue shirts for $12 throughout the community, and the plan is for students and staff to wear their blue-out shirts to help raise awareness of the cause on April 16th. Proceeds will go toward the Children's Medical and Mental Health Resource Network of Southern Illinois. The shirt design is a combination of insight from art student Jon Amon Ingold, CYCA members, and Tony Phillippe with Silkworm. CYCA members are also making informational posters to hang around the school about the cause. To purchase a shirt, see a CYCA member for a form, or order online at this store link- https://shopsilkworm.com/cobdenhscyca
Forms can also be printed from the photo below. All orders and money are due March 19th.

Congratulations Alyssa Penrod! Alyssa earned her Girl Scout Gold Award! For her service project, she raised money through presentations to create an entire physical and online music library for all genres of music.
Alyssa's team of workers were Carlie Clausen, Kennedie Marks, and Cadence Ellis. She spent her entire summer during Covid-19 guiding her team through the process of organizing, cataloging, and recording all pieces of music.
In the end of it all, Alyssa saved the music program thousands of dollars since music they never knew existed was found. Thank you Alyssa and again, CONGRATULATIONS!
