Students in Civics went above and beyond in their mock legislative hearing today. Each group was assigned a role in a hearing on the death penalty in Illinois, and though the assignment was only worth a small amount of points, students became enthusiastic about the roles and even asked if they could dress up. One group even held a fake funeral with programs and music to make their persuasive argument to the legislators. Mrs. Nashberry was proud to see them take ownership of the assignment.

Educators Rising students visited Unity Point Elementary today. Students observed PreK, Jr. High PE, 5-6th grade Language Arts and 1st grade. Students also participated in a Q&A with administration. Thank you to Unity Point for welcoming our students!
Special thanks to IL State Trooper Jeff Stroehlein for talking to students in Mrs. Nash-Mayberry's Civics classes. He talked about what his job entails, but the main focus was about his grandpa Gene Clutts, who was a prison guard and sadly was murdered in 1983 by an inmate at Marion Penitentiary. Students had read an article about the murder during a unit about the death penalty. Officer Stroehlein shared information about his grandpa, and the prison system.

Job opportunity for students! Union County Soccer League is looking for students who would be interested in reffing soccer games for the youth program. They’re looking for students 7th-12th grade that have knowledge of the game. The age groups would be Kindergarten, 1&2 grade and 3&4 grade. Games are played Monday thru Saturday.
