Cobden FFA Apparel is Here!
Weโ€™re excited to team up with a local vendor to bring you Cobden FFA gear in our school colors! By snagging some apparel, youโ€™re not just showing off your Cobden FFA prideโ€”youโ€™re supporting our hometown kids as they work toward CDE events and the National FFA Convention.
Every shirt and hoodie helps our chapter grow and keeps our community spirit strong.
Thank you for always backing our studentsโ€”it means the world to them and keeps our small-town tradition alive. Letโ€™s see Cobden dressed in FFA apparel.
To order, reach out to any Cobden FFA member or email Mrs. Smith at kelsie.smith@cusd17.com.

Cobden FFA at Flamm Orchards โ€“ Sunday, October 12th!

This Sunday, October 12th, Cobden FFA will be set up at Flamm Orchards from 10 AM to 5 PM! Weโ€™ll be sharing free samples of some local favorites, visiting with folks about FFA and agriculture, and celebrating the strong roots of our farming community.

Flamm Orchards has been a cornerstone of local agriculture for generations, and they continue to invest in the future of farming by supporting FFA students. On this special day, they are generously donating a portion of the proceeds to help Cobden FFA students attend the National FFA Conventionโ€”an experience that shapes the next generation of agricultural leaders.

Why is this important:
๐Ÿ‘‰ FFA Career Development Events (CDEs) give students real-world skillsโ€”everything from agronomy and livestock judging to ag communications and business management. These experiences build confidence, leadership, and career readiness for life beyond the classroom.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Supporting local youth in FFA ensures the strength of our rural communities and the future of American agriculture.

Weโ€™d love for you to stop by, grab a sample, and share your own agriculture stories with us! Every visitor, every conversation, and every purchase helps keep the spirit of agriculture alive for generations to come.

๐Ÿ“… When: Sunday, October 12th | 10 AM โ€“ 5 PM
๐Ÿ“ Where: Flamm Orchards

Come see us, enjoy some delicious local treats, and help support the future of agriculture.

The Cobden boyโ€™s golf season came to an end today, with Landon Cavaness representing the team at the sectional in Effingham, after placing 7th at regionals. The team finishes the season with a 5-4 record, and 3 different match medalists (Landon Cavaness, Matthew Howell, and Jaxson Boutwell). Great season, boys!

Cobden FFA took 10 qualifying students to the SIU Invitational District 5 Horse Judging CDE! We had a young and eager teamโ€”many of whom competed for the very first timeโ€”and they represented our chapter with pride. A special shoutout to standout freshman Ryan Buckner, who placed 8th overall individual out of 479 students! Thatโ€™s an incredible achievement, especially for a first-year competitor! Our kiddos gave it their all, and by the end of the day they were plum wore outโ€”a true sign of hard work and effort. We are so proud of every one of them! #CobdenFFA #HorseJudging #FutureIsBright #AppleKnockerPride

Sophomore and junior FFA members made their way to SEMO for SEMO Field Day!

Students rotated through exciting sessions exploring careers, livestock handling, FFA knowledge, farm survival games, and more. Afterward, they enjoyed walking tacos provided by SEMO Ag for the Ag Olympics. While we didnโ€™t walk away as champions, friendships were built stronger brick by brick! #Appleknockerpride

Last week, Mrs. Smith took Cobden AG/CTE students to the Southern Illinois Career and Trade Fair!

Students had the opportunity to dive into hands-on activities like brick laying, sheet metal work, welding, and pipe fitting. They also connected with local unions to learn not just about the trades themselves, but also the pay and benefits these careers offer. A fantastic experience exploring future pathways!

October is Socktober, the National Beta Clubโ€™s annual sock drive โ€” Jr. and Senior Beta Club are hoping to collect 200 packages of new socks to help those in need. (Yes, 200 packages of socks!) Because socks are one of the most requested items by shelters, your donation can really make a difference.

Hereโ€™s how you can help:

Bring new, in-package socks of any size (children, youth, adult)

Drop them in the donation bins placed at the front hallway and back hallway

The drive runs throughout October, so you have the whole month to donate

Invite your friends, classmates, and teachers to donate too

Letโ€™s show our school spirit and kindness by filling those bins! Every pair counts, and together we can help our community stay a little warmer this season.

We will be having the sock bins out at the Purple Out Game this Friday too - feel free to bring in those socks!

Thank you โ€” and happy Socktober!
