Jamie Nash-Mayberry

Bio

My name is Jamie Nash-Mayberry and I"m the high school social science teacher at Cobden High School. I'm a 2004 graduate of Cobden, where I had many wonderful teachers inspire me, and I still reside between Cobden and Alto Pass in a 171 year old house of which I'm the 7th generation of my family to live in. I majored in history and graduated summa cum laude from SIUC in December 2008 with a Bachelor of Science, followed by my Masters in Curriculum & Instruction with the social science focus in December 2013. I taught at Shawnee High School for my first 11 years of teaching. I have designed a curriculum that encourages students to think critically about the world around them, and feel its important that in addition to students learning history, they also develop historical thinking skills, so that they "do history" and become historians themselves. These historical thinking skills can then lead to media literacy skills that students can use in real-world situations. In my spare time, I enjoy eating good food with friends, kayaking, rappelling, swimming, spending time with family, and having adventures with my husband Kevin & black lab "Lucy." I also believe, as famous poet Maya Angelou once said while visiting SIUC, that we must be rainbows in the clouds for people to look to for inspiration. My promise to you is that I will try my best to be a rainbow in the clouds for my students and be a positive person.

"A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labors of other men and women, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving."
